Welcome to Core Leeds Independent School
Our Leeds centre is the first of our Alternate Provisioning centres, based at Networks House, Ashfield Way, Leeds.
Core Provides alternative support for children who are experiencing emotional, social or behavioural difficulties.
Our Centre follows the following curiculums
KS3
Key Stage 3
KS4
Key Stage 4
English
English goes beyond the classroom and examination results: we are natural communicators and know that our voice is best heard when we choose the right words. We will strive to pass this passion on to you. We have the highest expectations of our students because we know you can achieve more than you realise. In our work with others we are supportive: reflective rather than critical. Constantly learning from one another we understand that education doesn’t end when you leave.
You can expect to be encouraged, challenged, guided and supported by your tutors.
Students are naturally curious and realise that asking questions is the first step to learning. You are independent and use your time, both in and outside of the classroom, to the best of your ability. With high aspirations you have a desire to be the very best you can be. You are supportive of others and recognise that you can always learn something new from those around you. You are determined and resolved in your approach to English; you know that real learning does not come easily, and you are happy to take risks, try again and learn from your mistakes.
Our English tutors utilise Renaissance Star Reading.
Mathmatics
At KS3, we utilise Whiterose maths and star maths. Students will cover a wide range of topics in 5 main areas:
- Numbers
- Ratio and Proportion
- Handling Data
- Algebra
- Shapes
We aim to achieve a fluent transition from mainstream school and prepare them in Year 7 and Year 8 to begin covering the GCSE specification in Year 9. Students will be set work according to their baseline test results initially, but then frequent monitoring and assessment ensure they are challenged at the correct level throughout their time with us.
At KS4, students will follow a scheme of learning, preparing them for their GCSE specification at either Higher or Foundation level.
Science
Science provides students with powerful tools to describe, analyse, evaluate, create and improve the world. We want our students to experience a sense of awe and wonder as they appreciate the power of science and make links between different disciplines of science.
We want Science lessons to:
- Inspire curiosity to enable our students to question intelligently, learn through discovery, be scientifically literate and to connect their learning with the 21st Century world we live in
We want our students to:
- Be passionate about Science and fully engaged in learning
- Become fully participating citizens in an ever-changing society who are able to think scientifically, analyse, question, evaluate and assess risks in a range of contexts
Develop the skills to understand science, technology and engineering, as well as everyday tasks essential for keeping safe and healthy and maintaining their own economic well-being.
Our students are using AQA Activate textbooks following the AQA Science Syllabus.
Creative Arts
Students take part in a range of activities that allow for creative and imaginative expression, such as music, art, creative movement, and drama. The creative arts engage children’s minds, bodies, and senses. The arts invite students to listen, observe, discuss, move, solve problems, and imagine using multiple modes of thought and self‐expression.
The creative arts lessons provide ways for young children to learn and use skills in other domains. In the domain of Creative Arts Expression, our lessons also ensure that children who are dual language learners can demonstrate their abilities, skills, and knowledge in any language, including their home language. We have also introduced a garden project in which students will take charge and design their own garden outside.
Students will use a range of Maths, English, Science and Art to design their own space and have somewhere they can take pride in.
Student Voice
Student Voices from our Leeds centre. We encourage students to have a voice and share their opinions and make suggestions it is an integral part of the service we provide. here are a few of our students comments.
